Women’s Friday Division 2 2025
ROUND 1 FRIDAY WOMENS PENNANT 28 February 2025
SPRINGVALLEY GOLF CLUB.
RIVERSDALE V ROSANNA
- Karen Vogl caddy JB
- Jane Zhang c Lee Smith
- Anne Hackett c Dawn Harrison
- Lucinda Knight c Cheryl Whittaker
- Emma Hoang c Hai Nguyen
- Clare Lewin c Tina Cook
- Julie Jackson c Helen Hillard
Riversdale has the honour, this morning that is cool with a strong blustery wind on the 1st tee, Par 4 , raised tee box, left to right dog leg.
Rosanna got away well, and were looking confident, after the front nine, we were well into the match with varying scores, which were closer than they looked, just centimetre putts in it.
Karen 4 up, Jane 2 down, Anne 4 down, Lucinda 4 down, Emma 5 up, Clare 2 down and Juile Square.
The back nine was starting to get tight, after 13th Julie is now I down, Clare 3 down, Lucinda coming back with 3 down, Emma 4 up and playing so well, Anne 2 down.
Heading up to the 17th, we hear Emma has won her match 5/4, and shortly after Karen won 6/5 on the 13th. Julie is playing down the 17t,h 1 down, she squared the hole and headed to the 18th, all square.
Coming down the 17th, Clare has a great drive , her opponent much shorter , sending her 3rd shot short of the green, Clare sent a high lob onto the green which spun forward 2 meters from the pin, for 2. She secured the win for Rosanna, and after winning the last three holes was heading to the 18th all square, great fight back.
Lucinda was coming home strongly but lost on the 17th , 2/1 so close. Anne is 2 down putting on the 17th , unfortunately also a loss.
Jane is I up and 2 to go, in the meantime, Julie missed a win on the 18th by 1 putt, Clare has won her match on the 18th, giving Rosanna 3 wins, all eyes are on Jane.
Jane is on the tee box after losing the 17th, so is also going to the up the 18th all square. Her drive is strong to the right of the fairway, towards a forward sloping green, totally surrounded by deep bunkers. Her opponent’s drive is left into slight rough, well back. Her second shot is heavy and short, her third through the green.
Jane’s second shot is a well measured lay up below the right bunker, her third is amazing under pressure, high and lands softly 1 meter from the pin. Jane’s win sends the Rosanna team into a huddle of exited hugs and smiles all round with players and caddies very happy with a first-round win 4/3.
ROUND 2 FRIDAY WOMENS PENNANT 7 March 2025

KEW V ROSANNA
- Karen Vogl c JB
- Jane Zhang c Eunice Chan Healey
- Anne Hackett c Karen Tremewen
- Lucinda Knight c Di Malcolm
- Emma Hoang c Alison O’Connor
- Clare Lewin c Tina Cook
- Rachel Brydon c Julie Jackson
Kew has the honour this morning, facing the first tee is a wide fairway, with fairway bunkers on the right which seem to draw any drives that have a nervous operator.
All our players started well, with some Kew girls somewhat wayward and pulled their drives over the trees left to another fairway but safe. The second hole comes back towards the first tee box , so we can see Rachel and Clare playing on to that green and winning on their second hole.
Our team were playing well and seemed relaxed at the turn after 9 holes, Rachel – 1 up
Clare- 4 up, Emma – Square, Lucinda – Square, Anne – 2 down, Jane -6up, and Karen -5up.
The back nine was shaping up to a similar nail biter to last week, Karen Guyer has given Eunice a temporary reprieve from caddying in the heat for a couple of holes for Jane, who is well on her way to another win.
Rosanna is closing in, Jane has won 8/7, Karen has won 6/5, and Clare has won 3/1, we need another win at least. Emma lost on the 17th after a close game 2/1, and Rach played well all day to miss out on the 18th 1 down. Lucinda and Anne are still playing, we live in hope.
Lucinda is 1 up after 17th and is playing a textbook 18th, strong drive, lovely second, centred just in front of the green. Her op. had a nervous chip and putt, but Lu has out classed her and putted in for a win. Anne put the icing on the cake, with a huge comeback, squaring the last hole for Rosanna, giving us a 4.5 to 2.5 win.
It was nice to see Alison fit seamlessly into the caddy group, and , whilst there was a momentary discussion about who should get the caddy money after Jane’s win between Karen G and Eunice, the tongue in cheek suggestion got Karen no where, with Eunice taking the spoils.
Fabulous Friday girls win again, 2 out of 2, well done team.
ROUND 3 FRIDAY WOMENS PENNANT 14 March 2025
VICTORIA GOLF CLUB
SPRING VALLEY V ROSANNA
- Karen Vogl caddy JB
- Jane Zhang c Lee Smith
- Anne Hackett c Dawn Harrison
- Lucinda Knight c Di Malcolm
- Emma Hoang c Helen Hillard
- Clare Lewin c Tina Cook
- Rachel Brydon c Julie Jackson
An incredibly early start for players and caddies, as the sun comes up over the club house, promising a beautiful day for round three.
Luke has arrived to support the girls as they tee off on the 10th hole, and all team are away well on dog leg left par 4.
Victoria G.C is notorious for the many bunkers that protect the greens, it really looks like a crater zone from the moon on every hole. Our girls are playing well, with Clare and Karen, having a tough day at the office, on the turn the scores are –
Karen 6 down, Jane 3 up, Anne 4 up, Lu 3 up, Emma 1 up, Clare 4 down, and Rachel 3 up, if we can just hold on to those ahead games in the second nine.
Down to the pointy end and Rachel has a visible determination about her and is 3 up with 4 to play. Clare is coming back, but may run out of holes, Emma just hit the best bunker shot on to the green, putted out to win that hole and is now 1 up , 3 to play.
Lucinda is very steady, with 3 up and 3 to play. Anne has had slight trouble on the par 3 coming up the hill, so comes away 1 down three to play.
Jane has won in typical Jane fashion fast and efficient, 5/4. Rachel has put her opponent way winning 3/2, Lucinda keeping Rosanna in the hunt with a good win 4/2, unfortunately Karen lost 8/7, and Clare lost 4/3 , but we still have Emma and Anne playing. I scooted ahead to see Emma shaking hands with her opponent, she has squared her match, so Rosanna has at least 3.5 points. I hurried back to find Anne had battled on to win on the last hole.
So, Rosanna has won, 4.5 to 2.5.
This gives our team 3 out of 3, excellent when you find Spring Valley utilised a player with a handicap of + 3.5 as their number 1 against Karen, but their devious move didn’t work because our girls stood up together and brought home the win, well done team.
Caddy money went to Lee.
ROUND 4 FRIDAY WOMENS PENNANT 21 March 2025
CRANBOURNE GOLF CLUB
CRANBOURNE V ROSANNA
1. Karen Vogl caddy Janette Boglotto
2. Jane Zhang c Eunice Ch Healey
3. Lucinda Knight c Di Malcolm
4. Anne Hackett c Karen Tremewen
5. Emma Huong c Lyn Rose
6. Clare Lewin c Tina Cook
7. Helen Hollard c Chris Jansen
8.00 am , 1st Tee Par 5, dog leg right, and all the team is away safely. It’s a cool morning, with
rain clouds low and threatening.
I arrived at the 5th green to see Helen send a beautiful shot onto the green, putted in well, to
square the hole. She comes away 2 down, but that hole will restore her confidence. Lucinda is
sharing Helen’s pain, all the others are 1 up, excluding Jane who is 2 up.
Steady rain has started and its not helping our girls playing against a club at their home ground.
Onto the 13th tee, I find a bit of a wait for Helen and Chrissy, apparently the group in front have
needed referee advice. Off again, Helen is 5 down but fighting on in good spirits. Clare is 2
down, Emma 2 down, Anne square, Lucinda 5 down.
Things are starting to look a little grim for us, as Karen sends a long shot towards the 12th green,
the ball heads slightly left into the greenside bunker, which is optional GUR.
The pin position is tricky, best putt is uphill towards the back of the green, but not past the pin,
as the green falls away to a low run off.
Karen decides to play it where it lies, has good contact, but the ball tips the top lip, which flips it
up onto the green, past the pin. Around this green is a gallery of bored looking ducks,
who glance at Karen’s ball slowly dribbling their way. The ball touches one large male duck
enough to stop it from proceeding down the hill and sends the ball back towards the pin.
Karen’s concern for the duck is obvious but settles as she realises, she has dodged a bullet.
In the meantime, the ducks have wandered off totally unscathed, and I swear that lucky duck
just turned back with a smirk on his face as Karen missed the putt.!
She is now 1 down heading to the 13th Tee.
Moving up to the 17th to find most of the team has succumbed to local knowledge with losses to
Helen 4/3, Clare 2/1, Emma 1 down, Anne 2/1, Lucinda 6/4,
Jane and Karen are heading down the 18th still doing it for Rosanna, with all the team and
caddies watching on as they both, win 1 up on the last hole.
Cranbourne won 5, Rosanna 2, but the girls are a happy team, and we know if Cranbourne ever
come our way, it will be a different story.
Caddy money was split between JB and Eunice, $15 each and $5 will jackpot to next week at
Riversdale.
Rosanna is equal second on the ladder after the 4th round, with 3 to go.

This morning although booked Riversdale will not allow me to have a cart as Team Manager, so my comments via the Team app, were limited, but Eunice took up the challenge even though she was recovering from eye surgery, she went to some strategic positions to keep our followers informed, so thanks Eunice.
We teed off on the 10th at 8.50. The 10th is a long Par 4, which slopes right to left quite steeply, but Rachel led the way with a perfect long drive slightly right of centre, then played on to birdie the first. All away now and we were daring to dream.
Eunice sent some messages in after 15th, Rachel 4 up, Julie 1 down, Clare 1 down, Lu 2 down,
Anne square, Emma 3 up, Jane 1 down.
After the first nine, Jane and Clare are square, Rachel and Emma are up.
Our Captain Janet Hebden is here to support our team, and we are all appreciative of her taking the time to give the girls some cheers and encouragement.
Getting to the pointy end and we feel another tight finish coming on.
In the end our team really fought hard, but it was not to be, Clare continued to finish square, with wins to Emma and Anne.
Next week we are playing at our own course “Royal” Rosanna, which can have its own pressures, and we are playing Woodlands who are currently 5th on the ladder as against Rosanna who are currently 3rd, so roll on next round.
Dawn picked up the caddy money which had jackpotted to $40 this week.
ROUND 6 FRIDAY WOMENS PENNANT 4th APRIL 2025

ROSANNA V WOODLANDS

2. Jane Zhang c Lee Smith
3. Lucinda Knight c Di Malcolm
4. Anne Hackett c Dawn Harrison
5. Emma Huaong c Rose Flynn
6. Clare Lewin c Tina Cook

Ist Tee , 8am,
Julie is first to go, lovely calm straight drive, equally efficient is Clare, Emma goes for a members
drive across the corner, followed by Lucinda who hits a ripper straight up the middle.
Anne heads slightly right but safe, with Jane and Karen fire away in good spirits.
I scoot up to the 5th to catch our progress after the first couple, and Julie is off with a consistent
long drive 2 up after 4. Clare is all square after 4, Emma played the 4th beautifully to get 1 hole
back and is now playing 2 down. Anne signals 2 down, and Lu is having fun with 2 up.
Jane is on fire and tells me on leaving the 4th green at 4 up, this was the first hole she actually
used her putter.
At the turn, I travelled up to the score board to find a group of proud members waiting for the
team to come up the ninth.
Julie didn’t disappoint with all square, Clare is 1 up , Emma is playing well but still 2 down, Anne
1 down, Lu is playing her socks off with an amazing pitch onto the green 1 metre from the pin,
makes the putt to the delight of the gallery and leaves the green 5 up.
Jane is also 5 up and Karen comes away from the 9th all square.
My next stop was the 14th, missed Julie, but Clare just sank a long downhill putt to make 2up.
Emma has been unlucky and is 3 down, Lu is 4 up after 13 and is coming down the 14th with a
confident pitch onto the green, makes the putt to win her match 4/3. Her opponent is all smiles
and looks quite relieved its all over.
Just heard Clare has won her match on the 16th 3/2, and Jane has won on the 13th. We have 3
in the bag, with 4 to go. Emma fought all the way to the 16th but unfortunately lost, Julie has
squared her match on the 18th, Anne square on the 17th
, close but loses her match 1 down.
All eyes are on Karen, who is 1up teeing off on the 17th, she has that look about her, you know
“all in a day’s work “ look. Her opponent just birdied the 16th, hits her drive behind a tree to the
right of the fairway, Karen’s drive is perfect slightly left of centre. Her opponent chips across the
fairway almost level with KV’s drive, then her third goes into the left greenside bunker.
I glanced across to Karen and JB, the body language and lip reading from JB is saying layup,
Karen is all arms explaining how she could just do this easy shot to the middle of the green just
right of the pin ! JB has won and Karen does hit a high ball just in the dip in front of the green,
then chips on, but the ball runs on a bit and slightly left giving us all heart failure.
Her opponent does a perfect 4
th shot from the bunker within a metre of the pin, Karen’s putt is
no gimme, but she lines it up and bang, straight in the hole.!
That makes a win for this fabulous Friday team, 4.5 to 2.5.
Caddy money went to Lee Smith. Well done team.
ROUND 7 FRIDAY WOMENS PENNANT 11TH APRIL 2025
WOODLANDS GOLF CLUB
ROSANNA V VICTORIA GOLF CLUB
TEAM
1. Karen Vogl caddy Janette Boglotto
2. Jane Zhang c Eunice Chan Healey
3. Lucinda Knight c Di Malcolm
4. Anne Hackett c Karen Tremewen
5. Emma Huaong c Linda Nguyen
6. Clare Lewin c Tina Cook
7. Rachel Brydon c Julie Jackson
10th Tee 8 am.
Unfortunately, didn’t see the all the drives off the first with some Team manager duties but
noted Rachel, Clare and Emma were up and well on their way after the first couple of holes.
Up to the 15th and caught up to Clare as she sank a long putt making her all square.
Emma is 1 down after a seriously good short game exhibition giving her opponent no choice but
to concede the hole.
Anne and her opponent were having all sorts of bunker practise, but all square after the 15th
.
Lu and Karen were down after playing well but just not getting the lucky bounces or breaks.
Jane and her opponent were great to watch their chips and putts on this raised green, stroke for
stroke so good, but Jane ended up the victorious one and 2 up.
On the turn our team who were punching above their weight with every handicap, which made a
difficult task to defeat Victoria’s team 7 /0, a result that would send us to the finals.
Up to the 4th hole now, and Rachel has just lost her match 5/3, as has Anne 5/3, also Lucinda
6/4 and Karen 5/4.
Our remaining three players won’t give in, Clare and Emma are two up with 3 holes to play and
they go on to convert their scores to wins 2/1 respectively.
Jane is still a thorn in Victoria’s side, fighting away, coming to the 17th 1 up.
As usual Jane doesn’t disappoint and has out shone her opponent with short game brilliance to
win our third match for Rosanna 2/1.
Rosanna players and caddies gathered around to congratulate our three winners, and although
we lost this match, we secured our right to third place on the ladder in Division 2, no mean feat,
and I believe we gained respect from Victoria Golf Club players who expected an easy 7/0 win.
Huge thanks to all our players for their commitment to a long 7 game season, and our caddies
who give more than “turn up, keep up and shut up” each week, as well as sacrificing their own
usual Friday game for the sake of Team Rosanna.
We all thank Luke for his encouragement and enthusiasm for Friday Womens pennant, and
although we face uncertainty next year from Golf Australia, I’m pretty sure this group of women
will treasure the fun and battles shared together in 2025.
Caddy money shared between Tina, Eunice and Linda.
